Andrew J. (Jay) Knight II

Andrew J. (Jay) Knight II Headshot

Mediator & Arbitrator

Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator Jay Knight is a former trial lawyer and a Proctor in Admiralty.  Jay brings to every engagement the insights and knowledge from decades of trial experience as lead counsel having tried a wide variety of cases in both state and federal courts.

Even as a busy trial lawyer, Jay was sought out to serve as a neutral.  Prior to making the switch from trial practice to being a full-time neutral, Jay was able to accumulate 20+ years of experience serving as a mediator in many personal injury, property damage, admiralty and insurance coverage cases pending in state and federal courts.  Upon becoming certified to mediate in 1997, Jay quickly developed a reputation as being an effective neutral.

Before joining ADRsource, he was a partner in a Jacksonville law firm specializing in admiralty, railroad, transportation, product liability, insurance and business law and was with that firm for his entire 42-year career. While there, in addition to being hired as a mediator and an arbitrator, he represented individuals with personal injuries and/or property damage claims, maritime businesses, shipowners, insureds, insurance companies, Class 1 railroads and short line railroads.

He has a long-standing AV® Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating and is licensed to practice in Florida and Georgia.  Jay is an Emeritus Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) and a Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Jay is admitted to practice in the USDC Middle District of Florida, USDC Southern District of Georgia, US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and The Supreme Court of the United States.  In addition, Jay is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (Proctor in Admiralty), Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute (Past Jacksonville Port Director), The Propeller Club of the United States (Past Port of Jacksonville President and Past International President), the American Inns of Court, Chester Bedell Inn (Master of the Bench), the Jacksonville Bar Association, and The Federal Bar Association (Past President Jacksonville Chapter).

As a trial lawyer, Jay experienced with his clients the risks, uncertainty, delay, expense and anxiety associated with jury trials.  He recognizes the value of self-determination mediation provides and believes that litigants should always take advantage of the opportunity to seriously and vigorously use mediation to resolve their cases short of trial.
